How to Enjoy a Beach Day?
Beaches offer endless ways to have an incredible time, making it difficult to know where to begin having fun. But with some careful planning, your beach day can become truly memorable!
Enjoying a Beach Solo
- Stay Hydrated
The combination of sun, sand and sea can quickly lead to dehydration. Bring plenty of water or your beverage of choice (vending machines near beaches often sell drinks - this could prove more costly in terms of money and time spent) by packing drinks in an iced cooler with enough ice cubes so they remain cold without sand. Have at least 1 gallon on hand!
- Wear Sunscreen
Sun protection is of utmost importance for beachgoers. Sun exposure can result in painful sunburns and skin cancer risks. Use SPF 30 sunscreen before heading out onto the sand. Apply every few hours, even if your sunscreen claims it to be waterproof.
Beach sun can be powerful. Having a beach umbrella with you for shade when things become unbearable is necessary. Alternatively, consider renting or purchasing one from one of the local shops. Set it in an open area and arrange your towel or chair underneath to create an inviting shaded spot - keeping an eye out on belongings when swimming in the sea.
- Read a Book
Take advantage of the beach setting to indulge in some reading - be it light-hearted beach reading material or magazine issues. This relaxing activity will surely put a smile on your face and provide hours of amusing story-telling fun under your beach umbrella shade! When selecting books to read while at the beach, ensure they don't contain valuable volumes as water may damage them over time.
- Create a Beach Playlist
Up the beach vibes by creating your own customized music playlist for beach days! Create it ahead of time on your phone or music player and bring headphones for optimal listening pleasure. For portable speakers use only moderate volume levels so as not to disrupt those nearby.
- Take a Walk
Discover the beach by foot and admire its natural splendor. Relax to the soothing sound of waves as you stroll along its shoreline. Observe seabirds. Search for seashells or tide pools. Make sure that your starting point is noted to avoid getting disorientated!
- Enjoy the Ocean
A highlight of any beach trip should be experiencing its waters. Go swimming or simply wade into the waves for some relaxation in it. Bring along a float if you prefer floating. Feeling adventurous? Rent out a jet ski! Always pay attention to safety warning signs before entering any body of water, such as warnings by lifeguards. Never swim during unsafe conditions!
Enjoying a Beach with Friends
- Arrive Early
To secure a prime beach location before it becomes overrun with people, aim to arrive early - usually before 9 a.m. If possible, prepare and set up your space completely before engaging in any beach-based activities so as to guarantee enough space for everyone involved.
- Utilize a Wagon or Cart
To make transporting all the essentials for a group beach day easier, including games, food, towels and speakers - a wagon or cart may prove invaluable in ease. Look for one designed specifically to handle sandy terrain for optimal performance.
- Bring a Speaker
Music can set the perfect atmosphere for an enjoyable beach outing with friends. Bring along a radio or portable speaker which connects directly with smartphones or music players - be sure to collaborate as a group in creating an enjoyable playlist. Take care not to disturb nearby beachgoers by cranking it too loud!
- Plan Games
To maximize energy and engage all members, organize fun group games. Bring equipment for classics such as football, Frisbee, Bocce or Volleyball as well as fun creative ideas like beach mini golf tournaments, relay races or sandcastle building contests.
- Share Refreshments
Pack food and drinks that can easily be shared among your group. Large bottles of water, soda or juice work well. You could prepare sandwiches or simple portable snacks in advance. Chips and crackers provide convenient munching opportunities too! If permitted and of legal drinking age (check beach rules first!), beer or wine might be appropriate. Make sure no trash was left behind upon departure!
Beach Fun with Children
- Selecting a Spot Near a Lifeguard
Choosing to set up near the lifeguard station has its advantages. This ensures help is close by in case of emergencies, while offering kids a tangible landmark to remember where you're heading. Just keep in mind that lifeguards require clear pathways from their station directly to the water. Being directly in front could require relocation at their request.
- Pitch Your Beach Cabana
A small beach cabana can make an excellent addition to a beach trip for families, providing more shade than beach umbrellas while giving children a cozy place to rest or nap. Look for one with easy portability that doesn't consume too much space, while being mindful of any neighbors who might object.
- Organize a Treasure Hunt
Keep kids occupied for hours on end by planning an exciting treasure hunt in the sand! Hide items like golf balls, shells or toys near their spot and let children uncover them with clues provided along the way. Set out buckets nearby so the children can collect all their goodies when finished digging!
- Build a Sandcastle
Building a sandcastle on the beach is an age-old activity for children of all ages. Choose a spot away from the tide, dig a shallow well for water storage and scoop damp sand to form into castle shapes - use buckets and molds to shape into fun structures!
- Fly a Kite
A windy beach provides the ideal conditions for kite flying, which can both excite and challenge children. If you don't already own one, souvenir shops near the beach often sell kites. Find an open area where flying takes place while providing supervision. Test it at home to make sure it works before starting!
- Explore Nature
Turn a beach trip into an educational journey by exploring its natural treasures. Walk along the shoreline to uncover shells, tide pools, seaweed and starfish. Create a game by asking children to identify crabs or plant that they encounter. Be careful handling sharp objects like knives. Check local regulations regarding collecting items. If shells and stones are off limits and instead focus on finding sea glass treasures or man-made pieces such as coins instead.
